Check Mecklenburg County VINELink

A VINELink Mecklenburg County custody check does two jobs at once. It locates one person after an arrest. It also enrolls you for notice when custody changes. Local MCSO VINE covers people committed to county detention. Statewide NC SAVAN casts a wider net across jail and correctional records. Searching and registering answer different questions. A very fresh booking may lag, and federal custody runs on separate systems. Think of VINE as an information service. It is not a safety plan for who was arrested in Mecklenburg County.

Mecklenburg VINELink Custody Coverage

The Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office runs local VINE with a strict resident rule. The person must be committed into a detention facility. Bonding out first disqualifies the record from that local view. That is a coverage rule, not proof the arrest never happened.

North Carolina's NC SAVAN, reached through VINELink, works differently. State guidance calls it free and anonymous. Registration is never disclosed to the offender. NC SAVAN spans county jail residents, state prisoners, probationers, parolees, and registered sex offenders. Even so, the local MCSO rule still stands. What appears depends on the participating custody source.

Mecklenburg VINELink Result Fields

A Mecklenburg VINELink answer stays lean. It shows who is in custody, where that person is held, and any custody change that can trigger a notice. The full booking record lives elsewhere. MCSO Arrest Inquiry holds the arrest number, the charges filed at booking, bond details, and any booking photo. Mecklenburg's court Portal picks up the later hearings and outcomes.

Result itemUse and limit
Name and identifierMatch the correct person; use PID or another agency number when shown.
Custody statusThe contributing agency’s current status, which can change before an alert arrives.
Facility or agencyWhere the record source reports custody, not necessarily the arresting agency.
Release informationA reported release event; verify whether another hold or transfer applies.
Transfer informationA move from one custody source or facility to another.
Notification optionsAvailable phone, email, text, or TTY registration based on the system.

Bond means court-set terms that may permit release while a case waits. MCSO warns that anyone who bonds out disappears from its narrow local VINE view. The arrest itself can still sit in Arrest Inquiry. That record stays viewable during the public online period. The official MCSO VINE page explains the resident rule. It also spells out the notification workflow in the county's own words.

Register Mecklenburg Custody Alerts

Registration starts with selecting the correct person record. MCSO's local instructions lean on phone calls and a personal identification number. State NC SAVAN guidance adds email, text, and TTY where supported. Pick a channel you control at any hour.

  1. Select the correct person-specific record after comparing the available identity and custody fields.
  2. Choose release, transfer, or other offered custody-change notifications.
  3. Enter a direct phone number, email address, text number, or TTY contact when the option is available.
  4. Create and retain the PIN required to confirm an automated telephone notification.
  5. Test or confirm registration as instructed, then keep the person’s identifying number for later checks.

Skip the switchboard and the pager. The calls are computer-generated. If an alert hits voicemail, the system may keep calling for up to 24 hours or until the PIN is entered. Calls can come late at night. Never share the PIN with a stranger, and return to the official VINE route when a message feels off.

NC SAVAN's statewide number is 1-877-627-2826. MCSO's local VINE number is 1-800-247-9658. State Victim Support Services sits at 1-866-719-0108. Registration is free and anonymous. The service still warns that notice can arrive late.

Note: Store the PIN apart from the person's identifying data so an urgent automated call can be confirmed fast.

Local VINE Versus NC SAVAN

Scope is the big Mecklenburg distinction. Local VINE tracks a committed MCDC resident. This applies only until that person bonds out. NC SAVAN reaches statewide, covering local jail, state prison, probation, parole, and registered-sex-offender categories. So a person can be missing from one system. Yet that same person may be present in another for a valid custody reason. The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction search guidance lays out those supervision categories. NCDAC is no substitute for a fresh county booking. It matters after a person enters state prison or state supervision. The North Carolina eCourts Portal tracks the case, not physical custody or alert enrollment.

Committed
Accepted into a detention facility after intake, as distinct from bonding out before local VINE coverage.
Release
Departure from the reporting custody source, which may occur on bond or after another legal event.
Transfer
Movement to another facility, county, state system, or federal authority.
Disposition
The court’s later resolution of the charge, separate from a custody alert.

Match the tool to the custody state. Just booked points to MCSO Arrest Inquiry. Currently held points to Inmate Inquiry and local VINE. State sentences or supervision point to NCDAC, and court outcomes to eCourts.

Mecklenburg VINELink Limits

Safety comes first. VINELink is a notification service, not a safety plan. MCSO itself tells users to assume an inmate is already released, since alerts can arrive late. Never pause an urgent safety step just to wait for a phone call. If danger is immediate, call emergency services, and lean on established support channels for ongoing safety planning.

Federal custody works differently. The BOP Inmate Locator handles Bureau of Prisons inmates, and the ICE Online Detainee Locator covers eligible immigration detention. Immigration notifications run through their own system. The DHS and ICE VINE path spells out that separate federal channel. Keep in mind that MCSO codes like FED, ICE, or 287G are only clues in the local arrest record; they do not prove a person will surface in state VINELink.

The official page makes clear why immigration detention is not the same as ordinary Mecklenburg County jail custody.

Custody is not conviction. VINE reports custody events. Charges may be reduced or dismissed, and the North Carolina court record supplies the case disposition.
